pop-n-seoul

Even though the circumstances behind my arrival aren't exactly those that I had hoped for, I had a very enjoyable time. It was a great opportunity to (finally) learn about Korean tradition. I toured Unhyeon, Changdeok, and Gyeongbok palaces, each with their own special characteristics. (I was within striking distance of central Seoul, but never took that journey...)

Compared to Tokyo, the Seoul landscape is familiar, but is still unique. That was most apparent while experiencing the nightlife; while the streets are lined with lights to indicate the hustle and bustle, the streets themselves are much... wider. It's very busy, yet more relaxed, on a typical night, with a few... trademarks of Korean late night activity.

Most importantly, Seoul is filled with just enough of what really matters: great food, mad crazy stuff, and cool people. Despite not knowing anyone there, when I wasn't partaking of the Korean gaming scene, I ate good food (and once, not-so-great food) with new friends on several occasions. I was even a hero, somehow, to these kids in Gyeongbokgung... Comparatively, the people have no qualms about expressing emotion, whether it's favorable, or well... not (as I once learned in typical Jumaane fashion -- the hard way). Must be all the spice...

Among other things, I found out that there is another meaning to the acronym "DMZ". Unfortunately, it was only two days, after which I had to return. But I hope to come back soon!
